What anxiety looks like when it is worth treating

Anxiety is not unusual, and having it does not mean you need therapy. It becomes worth treating when it starts making decisions for you — when you turn down the thing you wanted, cancel plans you were looking forward to, avoid the phone call, or lie awake rehearsing a conversation that already went fine.

Physical symptoms often arrive before people connect them to anxiety at all: a chest that will not loosen, a stomach that reacts before meetings, jaw tension, sleep that breaks at 3am.

What working on it actually involves

Your therapist starts with what specifically sets it off and what you currently do in response, because the response is usually where the leverage is. Avoidance reliably reduces anxiety in the moment and reliably strengthens it over time, which is why willpower alone tends not to work.

From there the work is practical: recognizing the pattern earlier, building tolerance for the situations you have been steering around, and shrinking the ones that have grown out of proportion. Anxiety is one of the more responsive things to treat, and progress is usually noticeable rather than theoretical.

Insurance and cost

We are in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Priority Health, Aetna, Cigna, Carelon Behavioral Health, and Ascension SmartHealth.

Many in-network clients pay approximately $0–$40 per session, depending on plan benefits, deductible, and eligibility. We verify your benefits before care, so you know your cost before your first session. Private pay is $150 per session.

Common questions

Do you take my insurance?
We are in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Priority Health, Aetna, Cigna, Carelon Behavioral Health, and Ascension SmartHealth. Many in-network clients pay approximately $0–$40 per session, depending on plan benefits, deductible, and eligibility. We verify your benefits before care, so you know your cost before your first session. Private pay is $150 per session. If your plan is not on that list, we are not able to bill it yet — private pay is $150 per session, and we provide a superbill you can submit to your insurer for out-of-network reimbursement.
Are sessions in person or online?
Both, and neither one is the fallback. The Dearborn office at 3200 Greenfield Road, Suite 300, Dearborn, MI 48120 keeps office hours Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Appointments are flexible — daytime, evenings, and weekends — in person at the Dearborn office or by secure video across Michigan. For video you must be physically located in Michigan, because your therapist is licensed in Michigan.
How long does anxiety treatment take?
It depends on how long the pattern has been running and how much of your life it currently shapes. Many people notice a real difference within a couple of months of consistent weekly sessions. Your therapist will talk with you about what to expect for your situation rather than promising a number up front.
Do you prescribe medication?
No. We provide talk therapy. If medication is something you want to explore, your therapist can talk it through with you and you would pursue a prescription through a physician or psychiatric provider.
