Couples counseling in Michigan

Virtual couples work with a licensed Michigan therapist — both partners join from wherever they are.

In-network with BCBS Michigan • Priority Health • Aetna • Cigna • Carelon • Ascension SmartHealth

Most couples come in late

By the time couples book, the same argument has usually been running for years in slightly different costumes. Both people can predict the whole exchange and have it anyway. That is not a sign it is too late; it is the ordinary starting point.

The content of the recurring fight is rarely the actual issue. The pattern is — who escalates, who withdraws, and what each of you concludes about the other in the silence afterward.

What sessions are like

Your therapist will not sit as a judge deciding who is right. The work is on the pattern between you: interrupting it early, making the unspoken conclusions explicit, and finding out whether the story each of you tells about the other holds up when said directly.

Virtual sessions solve a specific problem for couples — you can both join from wherever you are. Two people no longer have to coordinate one drive to one waiting room at one time.

Insurance and cost

We are in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Priority Health, Aetna, Cigna, Carelon Behavioral Health, and Ascension SmartHealth.

Many in-network clients pay approximately $0–$40 per session, depending on plan benefits, deductible, and eligibility. We verify your benefits before care, so you know your cost before your first session. Private pay is $150 per session.

Coverage for couples work varies more between plans than individual therapy does, which is exactly why we verify your benefits before your first session instead of after.

How to start

Fill out the intake form and tell us your plan, what you are dealing with, and when you are generally free. We verify your benefits and match you with a licensed Michigan therapist within 24 hours.

If the match is not right, you can switch in one click. No awkward conversation, and no starting the intake over.

Common questions

Does insurance cover couples counseling?
It depends on the plan more than it does for individual therapy. We are in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Priority Health, Aetna, Cigna, Carelon Behavioral Health, and Ascension SmartHealth, and we verify what your specific plan covers before your first session so there is no surprise afterward. If it is not covered, private pay is $150 per session.
Can we join from different locations?
Yes. Both partners can join the same secure video session from separate places, as long as you are both physically in Michigan.
What if only one of us wants to come?
Start anyway. Individual work on a relationship is legitimate and often changes the dynamic on its own. Your therapist can talk with you about bringing your partner in later.
